On Saturday, 9 May the Maryvale Crown Hotel owner Sharron Lucas, hosted a community fundraiser bringing locals together and raising an incredible $26,000 for cancer research and clinical trials at Icon Cancer Foundation.
The event was inspired by Sharron’s desire to give back. A patient of Icon Cancer Centre for 28 years, she has built a close relationship with her oncologist, Associate Professor James Morton AM, and wanted to support others facing cancer. Read more about Sharron’s story.
A/Prof Morton reflected on Sharron’s resilience and outlook throughout her cancer treatment.
“Facing personal and health challenges that most of us can’t imagine, Sharron has always been positive, never complained and just got on with it,” he said.

“On winning her battle with leukaemia, Sharron is giving back to make the journey better for others by supporting cancer research at Icon Cancer Foundation.”
The fundraiser was a joyful and spirited occasion, with Maryvale’s tight-knit community coming out in full support of Sharron and cancer research.
Twelve volunteers from Head Office and Icon Cancer Centre Chermside and South Brisbane, including nurses who have cared for Sharron throughout her treatment, travelled from Brisbane to help support the special event. Their eagerness to be involved was a heartwarming display of care, generosity and the strong sense of community that exists across Icon.
Overwhelmed by the show of support, Sharron shares, “It was a great day – we’ll talk about it for ages.”
Icon Cancer Foundation is deeply grateful for the support of Sharron and the Maryvale community.
